It appears that in our efficiency driven economy, we spout a mantra as we greet people that goes something like this, “How are you doing?” Answer, “Good, but I’ve been really busy”. Conversation ended. Who would want to barge into that space with you? You just told them not to mess with you because you’re busy. Sometimes we even feel compelled to answer that greeting with the same response. Perhaps we don’t want to appear “not busy” because then we will be seen as a slacker. Why do we tell people how busy we are? Do we want it to seem that we are important?
- What would happen in 2020 if you start telling people really how you’re doing?
- What would happen in 2020 if you stop telling everyone that you're busy?
- What would happen in 2020 if you start to push away from the crazy and hectic pace and spend time in silence and solitude? Slow “the truck down” and enjoy rather than endure?
- What would happen in 2020 if you stop using social media as a place to consume your time and take in a good book?
In 2020, make it a year of being purposeful with your time, conversations, and money. Maybe, together, we will change the tide. Let's honestly respond with a greeting of our current state and become a positive influence on those around us.
